A bufo ceremony, sometimes called 5-MeO-DMT, is one of the briefest and most intense ceremonies people come to Lunita for. It does not unfold over a long visionary night; it arrives, it is complete while it lasts, and it passes. This page is about what the ceremony is like at Lunita and how it is held, not how to do it.
What the ceremony looks like here
At Lunita a bufo ceremony happens in a small group, in the octagonal glass Crystal Shala that opens to the jungle on every side, with a facilitator who holds the space and stays with you through every moment. There is preparation before and integration after, and you are guided, never left alone with it. Groups are kept intentionally small so no one disappears in the back row.
The setting
Lunita is in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, on the Ruta de los Cenotes, about forty minutes from Cancún airport and a world away from the hotel zone. Around 5,000 square meters of built space sit immersed in more than 80,000 square meters of preserved jungle, off-grid on solar power, with the pool fed by cenote water and a private partner cenote about ten minutes away.
What is included and how we prepare you
Every retreat here is shaped individually, so what is included depends on the retreat we build with you. Preparation and fit are worked through in your intake, and the guidance we send when you book carries the specifics for your stay. Health and medication questions belong with your own doctor and with us at intake. Some health conditions and medications mean a ceremony is not advisable, which is exactly what the screening is for, and we say no when it is not right for someone.
The honest part
Bufo is powerful and it is not for everyone. We keep the framing experiential, we make no medical promises, and we do not give doses. People speak of awe, of the edges of self softening, of release. Whatever happens, the work is in how you carry it home. For the fuller picture, read the benefits of a bufo ceremony and what a bufo ceremony is, or see our bufo ceremony page.
