Where the jungle is

Lunita Jungle Retreat Center · Ruta de los Cenotes Km 17 · 77584 Puerto Morelos · Quintana Roo · Mexico, forty minutes from Cancún International Airport, on the road named for the underground rivers it crosses. Close enough that arrival is easy; far enough that the only nightlife is the jungle's.

Two women's forearms meet over an ornate dark-stone carved incense burner releasing a thin copal smoke plume, one hand cupped open in an offering…

Getting here

IN SHORT

Fly into Cancún International (CUN), the best-connected airport in the region, with direct flights from most of North America and major European hubs. From the airport, Lunita is about forty minutes by road. Airport transfer isn't included, but we arrange it for you with trusted local drivers: you land, a driver holds your name, and the next decision you make is at the property.

Tell us your flight when your retreat is confirmed and the transfer is handled, both directions. Driving yourself is possible (the route is simple: highway south, then inland up the Ruta de los Cenotes), but for a first arrival in a new country with a retreat ahead of you, the arranged transfer is the move.

Puerto Morelos

Between Cancún and Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos is the Riviera Maya's quiet act: a fishing town that kept its scale while its neighbors grew, a working pier, a leaning lighthouse, sand streets near the water, and the Mesoamerican Reef offshore, the second-largest barrier reef on Earth, close enough that snorkeling it is a morning, not an expedition.

Lunita sits inland from town, up the cenote road, in the jungle belt, town when you want it, none of it audible from your hammock.

What's within reach

The property is built so you don't need to leave, and the region rewards you if you do. Excursions we arrange or point guests toward:

  • A private cenote, ten minutes from Lunita, the closest swim in the underground river
  • Puerto Morelos beach and the reef: swimming, snorkeling, the town
  • The islands: Isla Mujeres, Holbox, Cozumel
  • The Maya cities: Chichén Itzá, Ek' Balam, Cobá
  • South down the coast: Tulum, Akumal's turtle sanctuary, Caleta Tankah
  • And the tacos tour, which guests mention in reviews more than we expected

FAQ

How far is Lunita from Cancún airport?
About forty minutes by road. Fly into Cancún International (CUN), and we arrange your transfer with trusted local drivers in both directions.
Do I need to rent a car?
No. Most guests never leave the property mid-retreat, transfers are arranged, and excursions are organized with drivers. Rent one only if independent day-tripping is part of your plan.
Is Puerto Morelos walkable from Lunita?
The property is inland on the Ruta de los Cenotes. Town is a short drive, not a stroll. That distance is deliberate: it's what buys the silence.
What's the best airport-arrival time?
Daylight, if you can choose. The drive is simple at any hour, but arriving with light left means your first sight of the jungle is the jungle. Build a buffer day around travel either way: how to plan it.
