The Sacred Gift of Planting a Tree at Lunita

At Lunita, every retreat is an opportunity to deepen connection, with ourselves, each other, and the natural world. As part of honoring that sacred exchange, we've created a tree-planting practice: a way for retreat communities to give back to the land that holds them. Planting a tree becomes a living symbol of growth, reciprocity, and the roots a group puts down together.

Because reciprocity matters. A retreat receives so much from the land, its shade, beauty, and stillness, and planting a tree is a tangible way to give back, leaving something living behind. It also strengthens community: a shared act of care that ties the group to the place and to each other, growing alongside the transformation that happened there.

Because a retreat takes a great deal from the land and usually leaves little behind. Planting is the tangible half of that exchange: something living stays after the group goes, and doing it together ties a circle to the place and to each other. It is reciprocity made visible, which is a different thing from a gesture.
