Yoga Nidra & Sound Bath at Lunita Jungle Retreat

Yoga Nidra & Sound Bath, Lunita Jungle Retreat, Riviera Maya, Mexico

Yoga nidra and sound bath offer a rare experience of true rest, a guided 'yogic sleep' paired with the deep vibration of crystal bowls and gongs. At Lunita it's held in jungle-surrounded spaces, and can be experienced in the meditation shala or floating in the saltwater pool. Here's what to expect. (See also sound healing and meditation at Lunita.)

What yoga nidra is

Yoga nidra is a guided meditation that brings you into a state between wakefulness and sleep, you stay aware while body and mind enter profound relaxation. A facilitator leads you through breath awareness, body scans, and visualization, releasing physical tension and mental stress. A sound bath amplifies the rest, the vibrations deepening relaxation.

Two ways to experience it

In the meditation space: rest on mats in the open-air shala, the clean acoustics weaving vibration and stillness, ideal for a grounded, contained experience. In the pool: float in the shallow saltwater pool as sound waves move through you, water amplifying the vibration for a weightless, deeper release.

What it supports

Common benefits include profound relaxation, release of stress and tension, and support for restful sleep and clarity, a genuine resource for nervous-system rest. It pairs naturally with yoga, temazcal, and a personal retreat.

In short

Frequently asked questions

What does a yoga nidra and sound bath session include?

You lie down comfortably while a facilitator guides you through a yoga nidra meditation (breath awareness, body scan, visualization), followed by a sound bath with crystal bowls and gongs, a deeply restorative combination. Sessions run about 75 to 90 minutes.

Is yoga nidra the same as regular meditation?

Not quite. Yoga nidra (often called 'yogic sleep') guides you into a state between wakefulness and sleep while lying down, moving through specific stages of relaxation, distinct from seated meditation.

Can beginners participate, and will I fall asleep?

Yes, no experience is needed, and it's especially supportive for those new to meditation. Some people drift briefly into sleep, but you remain in a restorative state that's beneficial either way.
