About this retreat

This immersive program offers rare access to the behind-the-scenes architecture of Milèna’s signature somatic approach—a body-led pathway into healing, transformation, and embodied leadership through conscious movement.

Milèna holds the belief that dance is a sacred, revelatory practice. When we allow the body to return to its innate intelligence—when awareness is invited to roam freely across the landscape of tension, sensation, and restriction—something extraordinary begins to emerge. We meet ourselves more honestly. We bring to light what is asking to evolve. We begin to move from a deeper place.

Through the rhythms of the Five Elements, the guidance of the Four Directions, Floorwork, Groundwork, the integration of somatic practices, ritual, sacred dance, and embodied centering, we learn to access altered states of awareness that support the development of emotional intelligence, embodied resilience, and relational presence.

While some transformational work is best held in 1:1 settings or therapeutic containers, many wounds—particularly those that are relational, collective, ancestral, or systemic—ask to be met in the presence of others.

These patterns often live in the spaces between us, and they require us to be witnessed, felt, and moved within a field of shared humanity.

This program is rooted in the belief that repair, integration, and awakening happen in connection, and that collective transformation unfolds when we show up in embodied truth—together.

Questions

What was the Dance as Medicine retreat?
Dance as Medicine was an immersive program hosted at Lunita Jungle Retreat Center that taught the art of guiding somatic movement sessions: unravelling the body's story, transforming the sense of belonging, and liberating the soul's authentic expression. It offered rare access to the behind-the-scenes architecture of Milèna's signature somatic approach, a body-led pathway into healing, transformation, and embodied leadership through conscious movement. The program held the belief that dance is a sacred, revelatory practice: when the body returns to its innate intelligence and awareness roams freely across tension, sensation, and restriction, we meet ourselves more honestly and begin to move from a deeper place.
When did Dance as Medicine take place?
Dance as Medicine ran from May 29 to June 5, 2026 at Lunita Jungle Retreat Center near Puerto Morelos, Mexico, beginning at 2:00 p.m. on arrival day and closing at 11:00 a.m. on the final morning. The retreat has concluded, and its page remains on the Lunita Jungle Retreat Center site as part of the story of what the jungle has held. A week was the right container for training work of this depth: the practices built on each other daily, moving from foundations into facilitation, with the jungle providing the stillness the somatic work needed around it.
What did the training work with?
The program worked through the rhythms of the Five Elements, the guidance of the Four Directions, floorwork, groundwork, the integration of somatic practices, ritual, sacred dance, and embodied centering, learning to access altered states of awareness that support emotional intelligence, embodied resilience, and relational presence. A core teaching was that while some transformational work is best held one-to-one, many wounds, particularly relational, collective, ancestral, or systemic ones, ask to be met in the presence of others: these patterns live in the spaces between us and require being witnessed, felt, and moved within community, which is what the group container at Lunita Jungle Retreat Center provided.
Where was Dance as Medicine held?
The retreat was held at Lunita Jungle Retreat Center, Ruta de los Cenotes Km 17, Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, Mexico, about 40 minutes by road from Cancún International Airport. The center is an intimate, fully solar-powered venue for twenty guests, 5,000 square metres built inside 80,000 square metres of preserved jungle, with a pool fed with cenote water, an open-air glass yoga shala, and ceremony spaces held beneath the jungle canopy. For movement work, the setting mattered: sessions unfolded surrounded by birdsong and jungle quiet rather than studio walls, which is part of why facilitators bring somatic trainings here.
Will Dance as Medicine return, and what can I do now?
This edition has concluded. For what is coming up at Lunita Jungle Retreat Center, see the retreat calendar, where every upcoming retreat is listed with dates, or design your own personal retreat: personal retreats run year-round and can weave in movement, ceremony, and somatic work around your own intentions.
